From 1946 until April 2013 PenCare (formerly known as Penylan House) operated a care home, providing nursing and residential care for the aged within a Jewish orthodox environment. PenCare operated solely at one premises in Cardiff, although the catchment area covered the whole of South Wales and the West of England, with some service users originating from further afield.
Following the sale of the care home to Linc-Cymru Housing Association Limited in April 2013, PenCare’s focus changed from the operation of a care home to the funding of care for the Jewish community within a brand new nursing and residential care home operated by Linc Cymru, the underwriting of costs of operating kosher facilities within the new home, and the provision of care within the Jewish Community.
PenCare enjoys a high profile locally and benefits from the active involvement of the Jewish community in a wide range of social activities, notably through its support group, "Penfriends".
Future activity will continue the commissioning and funding of nursing and residential care, and the provision of a kosher catering environment at Penylan House. The Trustees of PenCare are aware that there is room for development of other services, including domiciliary care, the continued provision of kosher food and accommodation to those in need within the community.
The charity is registered with the Charity Commission and its registered number is 243968.
The charity's financial year end is the 31st of M arch.
